Ms Rui En Tong is a conscientious and responsible student tutor with experience in guiding students through difficulties in maths and the sciences, as well as school-related issues. She is highly dedicated to helping her students excel while also enjoying the process of becoming more confident in the subject.
She achieved the Good Progress Award, Edusave Award, EAGLES Award and Edusave Scholarship on multiple occasions at Henry Park Primary School (2010-2015). Also achieved the A* STAR Award (Upper Secondary) at Raffles Girls’ Secondary School (2016-2019) for students who express strong interest in the sciences and have achieved excellent academic results. Lastly, she achieved a perfect score for all subjects during the GCSE A Levels (H2 Biology, H2 Chemistry, H2 Mathematics, H2 Economics, H1 General Paper, H1 Project Work) at Raffles Institution (2020-2021).
Ms Tong is very active in sports too, having participated in various zonal and national inter-school competitions for Table Tennis (2010-2015) and currently for Squash (since 2016) where she represented the school in secondary school and junior college during the inter-school ‘B-division’ competitions, and now a member of the Safra Squash Club where she represented club in national squash league (NSL) under ladies division II. She also took part in various
competitions and clinched: 2nd place in SAFRA novice tournament, 1st place in SSRA Tech Mahindra tournament, 9th place in SSRA Marigold Squash tournament.
Her internships include volunteering at SPD @ Toa Payoh, a daycare centre for the elderly with disabilities, where she learned skills like taking blood pressure, feeding the elderly, conducting activities for them etc.
Observer-ship at IMCB (A* STAR): Interned at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology. Experienced the day-to-day job of a researcher in Singapore, and what a career in the sciences entail.
A research project at Science Centre Singapore: Conducted a 2-year project with mentors from the Science Centre, with the aim of optimising the efficiency of organic solar cells. Had the opportunity to operate top-grade equipment both from the Science Centre and research facilities at NUS, and learned many laboratory techniques. Participated in various national
science competitions, Youth Science Conference (YSC) and Singapore Science Engineering Fair (SSEF), and achieved excellent results. Gained valuable skills: operating Excel, PowerPoint, presentation experience etc.
